Yarn Fest Frenzy
Imagine a place where thousands of skeins of yarn were all together just waiting for you to come and feel and admire them. Last weekend Yarn Fest happened in my town, Loveland, CO. A place where hundreds of vendors come together to bring people who love knitting, the best yarn experience. I loved walking around multiple times admiring the radiant shine from each skein of yarn. Oh, the beauty that comes from all of those booths.
I enjoy watching the people that come to the Yarn Fest. You will see the most unusual and beautiful garments that people are wearing and made. When I attend these events, I am so inspired and excited to knit. After a while I think, I am done here, I just need to go home and knit. There are so many options of pretty yarn, there is no way you can absorb it all. I am always amazed to see what other people find because most of the time there are items that I didn’t even see.
This year I found a beautiful set of mini skeins to make the Anne of Green Gables Scarf by Joanna Johnson. She is a local designer and has an adorable book featuring many projects she designed inspired from the book “Anne of Green Gables”. In fact, I am teaching a class right now for a bag she designed. The other project I purchased is also a set of mini skeins that I am putting with a sock yarn I already have. It is so rich in color and I was so excited to start it. As a matter of fact, I did the very next day. I am making a shawl called On the Spice Market designed by Melanie Berg. I just love how it is turning out. It is an easy project, the yarn is beautiful, and I believe it will turn out just gorgeous.
I love attending these kinds of events because lots of times I am motivated to try something new that I haven’t done before. Plus it just inspires you to just get excited about your knitting and cast on a new project. During these times I work for my local yarn shop The Stitchin’ Den. The Stitchin’ Den is a sponsor of this show and we wind yarn that people purchase. Now winding yarn is not my most favorite thing in the world, but being able to touch, feel and see all the beautiful yarn is very satisfying. Like I said before, I see so many things when I am winding that I didn’t actually see in the show.
I promoted several of my new classes this year during the show as well. It is fun to talk to people and hear their knitting stories. The one that really stuck out to me was a lady told me a story about how she and her mom knitted a christening gown while she was pregnant many years ago. They didn’t even live in the same state, but she said they picked out the yarn together and a pattern. One of them made the bodice and one made the skirt. Then they put it together. All I could think about when she told me this story, was how special that was and all these years later, she still remembers it vividly. What a special moment in time that was made even better by knitting such a special outfit for a precious occasion.
So friends take a moment to knit on that special project for someone special, or start a new project that you have been waiting for, or finish a project that you put aside and finish it. Creating is special and rewarding. Take time for yourself to include knitting into your everyday routine. You will never be sorry that you took a few minutes every day to knit.
Knit with Love my Friend,
The yard above is beautiful. you can make me whatever you would like to. I’m not real picky but I love receiving something beautiful that you have made. You are the best ever. Love you!
Thank you! I do love making stuff for other people especially you!
You summed up Yarn Fest perfectly. The people, the yarn, the classes & the projects (both displayed & worn) are all so inspiring. That’s such a beautiful story about the Christening gown, how amazing. Thanks for sharing it.
